The tubes are produced in various materials using a cold drawing method.

The tubes can be supplied in any length up to 3 m.
Waveguide tubes offer minimum loss signal transfer at high frequencies and high power levels.
Standard components work with up to 325 GHz. At higher frequencies (up to 600 GHz) specialist waveguide tubes must be used (e.g. tube material = silver).
In order to avoid arcing effects in air-filled waveguides at high power levels, the tubing system may have to be pressurized. Nevertheless, waveguide tubes are also successfully operated at near-vacuum conditions by research facilities (e.g. in plasma physics or on satellites).
