Coax filters are typically used in more or less low-level signal ranges (unlike waveguide filters), although high power filters can also be and are configured as coax variants.
Basically, with its frequency response, every RF component also performs filter functions.
The specific filters we are talking about here can also be configured as low, high, band pass or notch filters, whereby it is important fundamentally to differentiate whether a filter is to be configured as a reflection or absorption filter.
The most important filter parameters are:
- the cut-off frequency (with high and low pass)
- center frequency and bandwidth with band pass and notch filters
- flank characteristic (filter type e.g., Chebychev, Bessel, etc.)
- and the trap attenuation.
Cut-off frequency, bandwidth and trap attenuation are always given as a function of the corresponding attenuation with regard to filter transmission behavior.
Diplexers and multiplexers switch a mixed signal consisting of different frequencies (or frequency bands), from, for example, an antenna to corresponding, frequency-selective signal processing inputs. Diplexers/multiplexers can therefore also be considered as filters.
The above mentioned filter parameters must then be defined here separately for every frequency band (broadband channel and every narrow band channel).
